🧠 Brain Candy #76

Monday, March 16, 2026
7–9PM
Green Brain Comics

Brain Candy returns for another curated evening of live, original work — a focused arts showcase highlighting writers, musicians, and visual artists in a setting designed to give the work the attention it deserves.

Brain Candy is co-produced by the Dan E. Wickett Legacy Committee, the Brain Candy Network, and Green Brain Comics, continuing a shared commitment to supporting and elevating creative voices in our community.

What You’ll Experience

Brain Candy is not an open mic, not a panel, and not an interactive workshop. It is a curated performance night — structured, intentional, and centered on the art and the artist.

Each event features a thoughtfully assembled lineup of creators presenting original work across disciplines:

Poetry - Cat Batsios
Catharine Batsios is from Flint & currently lives in Detroit as a poet, teaching artist, & literary organizer. Cat's poetry collection, Streetlamp Nautilus is available for purchase. Cat has two hybrid-performance residencies around town & books shows at Book Suey. To see what Cat's up to you can follow @booksuey on ig or check out A Detroit Literary Calendar.

Prose - Ben Yost
Ben Yost is a local artist/musician. He plays in bands and is a private music lessons instructor. Through his DIY label, Kickpop Records, he's released chap books and zines of his own and other people's work. The label has also put out comps, albums, and audiobooks. He's written several personal zines himself. And he writes his own biographies.

Prose - Ryan Becker
Ryan M. Becker is a Michigan-based writer currently working on his debut novel. He is the author of Euphoric Wonderland, a poetry collection, and has performed at open mics and slam poetry events throughout the greater Detroit area, where his readings exude a humor-laced, animated presence.

Music - Drew Pineda
Andrew Pineda is a Filipino-American writer currently rooted in Southwest Detroit. He earned his MFA from the University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe and has essays featured in Barrelhouse Magazine, Crab Orchard Review, and elsewhere. When he isn’t writing, he's selling books as a co-owner of 27th Letter Books or listening to records and cooking.

Visual art - Anna Johnson.
Anna Johnson is a visual artist based in Detroit, MI. Her works primarily consist of oil paintings, acrylic paintings, and pen and ink drawings. Johnson focuses on themes of nature, inner glow, and femininity.

Hosted by Sarah Pazur.
Sarah Pazur is a former Brain Candier andMichigan-based writer with a PhD in Educational Leadership. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Pithead Chapel, JMWW, Hybrid Pedagogy, Phi Delta Kappan and other publications.
