Comics are built for moments like this—portable escapes, shared stories, and reasons to poke your head out when the sidewalks finally cooperate. If you make it in this week, we’re glad to see you. 🎬 Senate Theater: Cartoons by Day, Spike Lee by Night
Our friends at the Senate Theater are stacking Saturday, February 7, with two very different but equally special screenings:
At 3:00 PM, they’re hosting a Fleischer Studios Cartoon Festival, a joyful matinee celebrating the animation pioneers behind Betty Boop, Popeye, and Superman. It’s a perfect all-ages excuse to remember how rubber-hose animation once ruled the world—and yes, it’s especially great for younger Brainiacs.

Then at 8:00 PM, the mood shifts with Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. Sharp, uncomfortable, funny, and deeply human, it’s a reminder that cinema can still cut close to the bone while giving you something to chew on long after the credits roll.

✏️ One Week Out: Drink & Draw at Downey Brewing (Feb 13)
We’re officially one week away from our next East Dearborn Drink & Draw, and this one’s shaping up nicely.
On Friday, February 13, we’ll be back at Downey Brewing Company, joined by our pals at Blick Art Materials – Dearborn. Bring your sketchbook, your WIP, or absolutely nothing but curiosity. You can work solo, jump into prompts, or just hang out and soak up the creative energy.
We’ll have drawing materials and prompts available, Downey’s beer will be flowing, and the room will be full of friendly artists at every skill level. It’s less about “being good” and more about showing up.
