It’s one of those weeks where the comics are strong—but the calendar might be even stronger. Let’s get into it:
This Saturday afternoon, the Senate Theater is rolling out a special 20th anniversary matinee of Nacho Libre. If you’ve never seen it on the big screen, this is your chance—full crowd, full sound, and all the glorious absurdity it deserves. It’s the perfect weekend detour before diving back into your stack.
Then on Friday, June 12, we’re back at Downey Brewing for Drink & Draw, co-promoted with Blick Art Supply. This one’s all about hanging out, sketching, sharing ideas, and maybe trying something new. No pressure, no expectations—just bring something to draw with and settle in for a relaxed, creative night.
The following weekend (June 13–14), Katie & Dan will be at A2CAF at the Ann Arbor Public Library. This is one of the best showcases for indie creators, small press, and unique voices in comics anywhere in the region. If you’re looking to discover something new—or just want to immerse yourself in a room full of people who love comics as much as you do—this is absolutely worth the trip.
And then Monday, June 15 at 7PM, Brain Candy #79 returns for another curated evening of live, original work — a focused arts showcase highlighting writers, musicians, and visual artists in a setting designed to give the work the attention it deserves.
Brain Candy is co-produced by the Dan E. Wickett Legacy Committee, the Brain Candy Network, and Green Brain Comics, continuing a shared commitment to supporting and elevating creative voices in our community.
