New Comics This Week — Wednesday, August 5, 2026
August is officially in motion, and this week’s new comic list is stacked in that “clear your schedule and cancel your responsibilities” kind of way. Big debuts, major story arcs kicking off, and a few books that are about to become your entire personality.
Also, not to get distracted (I’m absolutely getting distracted), but Dearborn Homecoming is right around the corner next weekend—August 7–9—and I’m already thinking about food trucks, music drifting through the air, and that perfect moment when fireworks hit and everyone just collectively goes “ohhh.” Summer is doing its thing, and comics are keeping pace.

Drink & Draw — Friday, August 14
We’re teaming up once again for East Dearborn’s Drink & Draw at Downey Brewing, co-sponsored by Blick Art Materials. It’s exactly what it sounds like: good people, good drinks, and a room full of sketchbooks, doodles, and creative chaos.

Tears of the Black Tiger at the Senate Theater

Welcome to the ranks of Death Knights, battling necromancers and cosmic horrors with reality-warping weapons and a team you’ll actually like. It’s big, stylish, emotional, and packed with that signature Šejić energy. A returning favorite that feels right at home in 2026.
CHACHU #1
Iman Vellani steps into the writer’s chair with a deeply personal, neo-noir road trip that blends coming-of-age storytelling with private eye drama. Set in 1979, it follows Leila as she heads to California and gets pulled into a mystery involving her uncle’s missing wife. It’s heartfelt, stylish, and grounded in character in a way that makes it feel instantly lived-in. One of the most intriguing debuts of the week.
The Smart Division #1
Five minutes into the future, and things are already going sideways. A predictive AI may have helped orchestrate the perfect murder, and now a brand-new FBI division has to figure out how to stop something that’s always one step ahead. Zack Kaplan and John Pearson reunite for a slick, high-concept sci-fi detective story that feels just close enough to reality to be a little unsettling—in the best way.
ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #22
A new arc begins, and it’s a big one: Get Brainiac. Superman is going all-in to bring down one of his most dangerous foes, but first he’s got to get through Metallo—who just happens to have Kryptonite running through him. This is the start of a major run toward issue #25, and it’s exactly the kind of high-stakes storytelling you want from a Superman book.
WHAT IF...? CAPTAIN AMERICA #1
What happens if Captain America wakes up too late? Like, way too late. Instead of joining the Avengers, he lands in 2099—and the world is very different without him. Marc Guggenheim and Ron Lim deliver a future-shock twist on Cap’s legacy, packed with action, alternate history, and big “what went wrong?” energy.
