Labor Day weekend is here, Brainiacs! We’ll be closed Monday, September 7 for the holiday, so enjoy the long weekend, get outside, eat something questionably large off a grill, and generally make good decisions—well, reasonable decisions. The important part: new comics will arrive right on schedule Wednesday, September 9 at 10am. No holiday delays, no comic-less Wednesday, no need to panic. Just a fresh stack of comics waiting to be devoured. And we've got plenty more happening around Green Brain in the weeks ahead, so let’s get you caught up!

BrainScan is your weekly guided tour through the latest comics hitting the shelves at Green Brain. We dig into the week's biggest books, weirdest books, books you probably didn't know existed, and books that somehow make us say, “Oh hell yeah, THAT ONE.” It's part comic-shop preview, part recommendation engine, and part excuse for Dan and Katie to argue about comics on camera. And now, let’s get back to the important stuff: COMICS. Next Wednesday brings another fresh batch of new releases, including some seriously interesting #1s, a few big-name creative teams, and at least one book that involves someone trying to kill a god. So yeah, pretty standard week at Green Brain. Here are a few books we think deserve a closer look:
KARMAN BLADE #1 (OF 4)
The Eisner-winning team behind Little Bird and Precious Metal is back with what could be one of 2026’s big dark-fantasy breakouts. In a dying world ruled by the tyrant god Kalu, a young man is chosen to wield a star-forged blade—and kill a god. The mission: free the world’s hoarded water. Gorgeous, strange, brutal, and built for readers who like their fantasy a little fucking weird.
SIX OF US #1
Tom King, Gabriel Hernández Walta, and Jordie Bellaire—the team behind The Vision—return with a seven-issue Hollywood noir about six actors who made America’s favorite sitcom. Then one of them mysteriously dies. What follows is a story about grief, ambition, secrets, betrayal, and the strange line between performing a life and actually living one. Chapter One is ominously titled “The Thing about me Dying.” Yeah, we're interested.
SPAWN 77 #1 (OF 3)
In 1977, a young Todd McFarlane started kicking around the ideas that would eventually become Spawn. Nearly five decades later, he’s going back to that original spark and building something radically different from the Spawn Universe we know. Spawn 77 offers a new vision of the character, with covers from Mark Spears, McFarlane, Emma Rios, Shawn Crystal, and more. If you thought Spawn had nowhere new to go, Todd would apparently like a word.
MARVEL GOLD '76 #1
Stephanie Phillips and Madibek Musabekov throw Jack of Hearts, Nova, and Star-Lord into a nasty 1976-era Marvel throwdown against Bullseye, who’s been hired by Thanos. Naturally, things go badly. Very badly. Phillips, one of Marvel’s best current writers, brings the period setting and superhero chaos, while Musabekov supplies the art. It’s a brutal trip through New York that looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
EMPEROR AQUAMAN #21
The “Tidal War” begins, and Aquaman has basically everyone coming for his throne. Ocean Master, Black Manta, Crimson Queen, and a whole collection of enemies are joining forces against the ruler of the Blue Empire. With Aquaman’s destruction leaving the throne vulnerable, a newtidal wave of conflict is about to crash across the ocean kingdoms. Jeremy Adams and John Timms are kicking off what looks like a major turning point for Arthur Curry.
